Bloomsbury Law’s immigration solicitors have a bilingual team which is happy to help you understand everything you need to know about visiting the UK. Our team understands every application is unique which is why we provide a bespoke service to make sure your application runs as smooth as possible upon entry to the UK.

There are different types of visitor visas depending on your reason for coming to the UK. It could be for a holiday, visiting friends and family, marriage, study, business or other reasons. The most basic requirements are to prove:

  • The length of your stay is within the limitations of your visa;
  • That you have the funds to support yourself throughout the duration of your stay including your travel home; and
  • That you intend to leave the UK at the end of your visit.

Generally, visitor visas are limited to 6 months duration, but in some situations it is possible to obtain a visa for periods of one, two, five or ten years. The reasons for entry will dictate the nature of documents required for your visa and can often vary per application. When applying for a visitor visa it is important to include correct and sufficient documentation in order for your application to be successful.

There are exceptions as to who needs visas when travelling to the UK. Nationalities from the European Union do not need UK Visitor Visa to enter the country. It is important to be aware of the status of your nationality to ensure you have freedom of movement within the EU. Nationalities from outside the EU (non-visa nationals) must however, obtain a valid Visit Visa Entry Clearance before entering the UK. The type of visa will depend on the reason and duration of your stay in addition to your current nationality and citizenship status.
