Background and Experience

Steven is an Employment Law specialist, with more than twenty years’ experience in all aspects of the discipline. That experience comes from working in both commerce and industry, as well as in private practice. This grounding means Steven can dissect an employment law issue and quickly identify the best outcome and how to achieve it. He has worked in various sectors including oil and gas and engineering and construction (Halliburton), waste management and environment (Suez Group), publishing and media (Highbury House Communications) and international risk management and security (Global Strategies Group). Through this experience, Steven has been involved in some Employment Law issues with an international dimension, involving Europe, the Middle East and the US. As a result Steven is well placed to understand the specific issues affecting businesses and has a good sense of commercial pragmatism.


Steven specifically enjoys project work, for example, the employment aspects of mergers, acquisitions and disposals of businesses which necessitates undertaking the necessary due diligence and advising on compliance with TUPE. He also has an interest in the use of social media in the workplace and advising on best practice policies to avoid disputes. He also deals with employment tribunal litigation, and career highlights include dealing with a large class action defending a range of unfair dismissal, breach of contract and breach of TUPE claims.


Steven has experience in advising businesses in various industries and sectors and of various sizes. This includes advising HR professionals on a variety of day-to-day employment-related issues. He enjoys advising on implementing “best practice” policies and procedures which are designed to protect and strengthen his clients’ position. Steven also advises a number of senior executives who require services and advice in relation to their individual employment rights and the negotiation of exit packages in the event that the employment relationship breaks down.
