The Government removed 95% of Legal Aid funding in December 2012, leaving prisoners with complex issues that require legal intervention unable to access Legal Aid funding. In order to protect a prisoner’s rights, all non-advocacy cases (Adjudications before a district judge or parole hearing before the Parole Board) do not qualify for legal aid, except for sentence calculation cases.
This has resulted in prisoners open to being mistreated and their rights being violated. Many are unable to pay privately for a solicitor to assist them with their legal issues. However, if they can fund their own representation or have friends or family who are able to assist, we offer an affordable, prestige prison law service where help is at hand from our experienced lawyers who will fight for prisoners rights.

Recent changes to Legal Aid have meant that funding is now very limited for criminal cases, we do not feel that it is possible to represent clients to the standard that we would think is necessary and therefore, we do not therefore offer Legal Aid.
